Indoor Fun When You Can’t Get Outside

Most of us love get outside in nature, but if you’re like me, rainy or cold days I’d prefer to stay indoors. While that is my preference, too much indoor time – especially when you are ready for spring – can sometimes make me a bit stir crazy.

So many people tend to think that they have to go outside and explore to be able to find the peace and happiness that they’re looking for. I disagree. There are many ways to find your peace and increase your happiness right in your own home.

Here are some indoor ideas for you to consider:

Read a good book. A good book can transform your thoughts and take you away to another world. When you find a book that has you hooked from the very first page, you just know that it’s a special read. If you’re not much of a reader try some of the audiobooks that are available. I’ve found so many great “reads” that way.

Allow yourself to get caught up in the words and discover a world that you never knew existed. Who knows – after you’ve read awhile you may just be inspired to write a book of you own.

Play a game. Card games and board games are simply the best. Neither option takes much effort and it’s always fun to challenge yourself or get together with someone else. What’s more fun on a rainy day than a good old game of War or Connect Four?

Allow yourself to have fun during the game. Be careful not to turn it into something that is overly competitive. Such competition can cause tempers and tensions to flare – and where’s the fun in that?

Start a hobby. There’s nothing like a new hobby to stimulate your brain, relax you, and show the world and yourself how much you matter. Find a hobby that looks fun to you and dive in.

The time that you spend on this hobby is all time that you’re taking just for you so it’s a valuable time for self care. Affirm how valuable you are by enjoying a new hobby!

If you choose a hobby in which you create things, be sure to take time to admire the items that you create. An added benefit is you get the joy of getting to use the items you create, or you can share the joy when you give your creations away.

Watch your favorite show. Sometimes it’s an indulgence to turn off our brains and turn on the television. Settle in and pick a few of you favorite television shows, movies, or pick something new. Be careful not to get into the habit of binge watching, though. That’s a way to totally lose track of time and miss out on the rest of your day.

Bake some goodies. Do you consider yourself to be a foodie? Why not put your tummy front and center and spend a day baking up some of your favorite treats? The best part? You’ll get to enjoy the food or share it with friends and family!

Just because you’re making “goodies” doesn’t mean you abandon healthy habits. Drink your water and sprinkle in some other healthy options, too. Having a well-balanced diet is important for your overall mental, as well as physical, health

The easiest way to achieve self-care and to make it happen is to do some of the things that you love. You can easily see that with just a little bit of effort, your time at home can have a positive impact on your day.

Still want some other options? Take a moment to look around the room you’re currently in to see what you can find to do. Get creative. Who knows, you just might find a way to reconnect with yourself, your family or roomies, and even your home.

I live in Michigan where the weather can change from minute to minute.  When the weather is nice, I love to be outdoors, but on days like today, it’s always better to stay warm and dry inside. Finding worthwhile indoor activities isn’t a hard thing to accomplish at all. It’s also a great way to save your sanity and practice some self-care.

Find your purpose – find your joy!
