Do you remember learning multiplication as a child? I really struggled with some of the times tables, but some of them just made perfect sense. I obviously practiced the ones I liked because they made me feel smarter. That’s kind of how life works.
“All things multiply themselves. Worry multiplies reasons to worry. Fear multiplies things to be fearful of. Hate multiplies feelings of hate. Gratitude multiplies things to grateful for. Faith multiplies proof of faithfulness. Love multiplies circumstances that facilitate love.” Hendrith Vanlon Smith Jr, The Wealth Reference Guide: An American Classic
Almost everyone wants to be happy. I’ve never met anyone who didn’t want to be happy and to have a drama free, peaceful life. However, I’ve not met many people who feel they have really found the peaceful life they desire.
People tell me that they have no choice about their life, that “it is what it is.” I’m here to tell you this very important fact – you do have a choice. You can choose the life you want to live. You can choose to have a peaceful life. You can choose no drama. All you need is a desire to find the peace and some useful tools. I want to help you find the peace you are seeking if you are honestly ready to let go of the chaos and move forward.
In today’s world, it sometimes seems like things are constantly changing for the negative. Our leaders, our media, and most of the people trying to sell something want us to believe the worst is about to happen – that is until tomorrow, when something even worse than today’s disaster is just around the corner.
All the drama going on around us can cause us to be stressed out, overwhelmed, and dissatisfied with our lives in general. People all around us are absorbing the negativity, and if we are not careful, we will absorb it as well. This can have devastating effects on our health – not just physical health, but our total mind, body, emotional and spiritual health.
Research has shown that stress related health issues are one of the top reasons people go to a doctor, physically affecting over seventy-five percent of the adult population. These symptoms include fatigue, headache, digestive issues, unexplained muscle aches, gaining or losing weight, difficulty sleeping and many others. The psychological effects are equally devastating.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a toolbox we could open, reach inside, and pull out the magic tool that would put an end to all the stress around us? If you are serious about making some positive changes in your life, this blog and the different articles that get posted each day will provide you that toolbox. It won’t have one magic tool that does it all, but it will give you a good basic set of tools to get you started.
The peaceful lifestyle tools I use have made a significant difference in my life. Finding my peace was not an easy journey, but it was well worth the effort. Today I am thankful to say that even though life has its trials, I am at peace – content in every situation. I love my life, even when it’s hard.
A wise friend told me recently “what you don’t know you don’t know can hurt you.” Read that again – and no, it’s not a typo. I used to think it was a good thing to stay quiet, and keep my thoughts and needs to myself. I didn’t know it was bad for my emotional health, and I didn’t know that emotional health was at least as (if not more) important as my physical health. What I didn’t know I didn’t know actually did hurt me. I don’t want you to have to experience the same pain, and I don’t want you to have to struggle like I did when there are so many great tools readily available.
I want to thank you for following my blog and reading my posts. In the near future, I will be compiling all these tools into a nice little book designed for you to use over a ninety-day period titled, “Tools for a Peaceful Life.” Until then, please continue to enjoy the daily posts.
So, I wouldn’t want to leave you without at least one simple tool you can use right now to help you find your peace. That tool, which I probably use the most of all, is the power of the breath. You can use your breath in so many different ways. There are many different yoga breathing techniques, as well as techniques used by holistic practitioners, counselors, and even some more progressive doctors.
One very simple and basic way that doesn’t require and special training is just to breathe in and then let out a big, long, audible sigh to send the chaos and frustration far, far away. There’s something very cleansing about a good sigh. The next time you feel like things are just building up, give a sigh a try and let me know what you think. Until next time –
