Today I wanted to share a little about me in case you’re wondering who I am and why I do what I do.
Helping people find their purpose and find their joy is what I love to do! It is my true joy and my calling. I get so much satisfaction from helping my clients break through the barriers that get in the way of finding their purpose, and watching them make the transition from chaos to calm.
You may not know this, but I too, have personally made the transition from a life of personal chaos to finding my calm, allowing me to have the life I have today.
Growing up, I was strong willed, and labelled a difficult child from a very young age. My parents did the best they knew how to do, but nothing seemed to work. The more they tried, the more I felt like a failure To make matters worse, I never really felt wanted or worthy of love
Neighborhood bullies picked on me, I had trouble making friends my parents would let me hang out with. To say the least, I was pretty unhappy most of the time.
Eventually, I figured out if I became invisible, things were a whole lot easier. It worked for a short time, and I got by being the obedient child, not speaking, and definitely not being real. After a few years of invisibility, I totally rebelled and left home as soon as I could at the young age of seventeen.
To get by, I did a lot of low paying jobs because I didn’t really think I was worth anything better. I took some classes at the local community college, but that didn’t really work out either. It was like everything I tried fell apart. My health was not good, my relationships were even worse, and financially I just scraped by.
After moving to San Francisco from Michigan to get a fresh start, (which didn’t work out either) I joined the Air Force, got married, became a mom to two amazing sons. Unfortunately, the marriage didn’t work out so I moved back to Michigan as a single mom, dabbled in a few businesses, and even ended up homeless for a period of time. Life was not the “happily ever after” I expected growing up.
Knowing that I had two sons to raise, I needed to do something – and it had to be radical. I went to a temp agency, and after some short assignments, I found a job in the steel industry where I stayed for 31 years. I loved my career! It challenged me, and I was able to be creative, productive and efficient. For the first time in my life, I felt successful.
After several corporate mergers, title changes, and budget cuts, I started to feel stifled again. I wasn’t allowed to be an independent thinker anymore and things kept changing in ways that brought back all those negative feelings from my younger days. I was constantly stressed, my health really suffered, and so did my relationships. Life wasn’t fun anymore – I’d lost my purpose, and lost my joy. I knew I was moving into chaos again so I abruptly quit my day job, It was time to start over.
I’d always loved helping others, and I knew that God had a purpose for my life. It took about a year and a half of self discovery, learning, and working through my own chaos and emotional baggage before I found my true passion.
